The novel centres on Ayar, who wakes from repeated nightmares that she keeps having after she travelled to France from Syria, hoping to get away from a painful past. As the story develops, the lives of its characters twist together through fierce and emotional moments, showcasing how war keeps on affecting them even long after it ended. The book explores survival, loss and displacement.

Raneen Abu Fakhr is an interior design graduate and writer who published her first novel, Al-Tariq Al-Wasee (The Wide Road), in 2017. Her work has been showcased at major book fairs in Sharjah, Frankfurt, Cairo, and Baghdad.
