Most of us know that camels work very hard, and some have kind masters. But we don’t know what camels think about, what they like to do on holiday, or whether they like chocolate! Charlie is a camel who is used to kindness, loves being kind, is fond of children, and enjoys making friends with other animals. These four stories follow Charlie at a birthday party, going fishing, experiencing snow, and meeting a hedgehog, all of which show what an original, friendly, and sometimes naughty character he is.

Alison Thistlethwaite has always loved telling stories. Charlie the Camel’s adventures began as tales told to her granddaughter in North Africa, during many visits. During the Covid pandemic, however, it was not possible to visit, so Alison started writing stories down and sending them. They were a very welcome gift to a little girl who had to stay indoors for three months. Here are just four of many composed.

Alison loves animals and lives in the countryside where sheep, cows and wild deer are often to be seen. In her working life she has been a singing teacher and an artist. At first, she painted flowers and landscapes, and then large abstracts, which have been shown in five English cathedrals.
