Black Coffee is a collection of short stories shaped by the reality of everyday life in Palestine. Samar writes with the same honesty you find in a bitter cup of morning coffee - straightforward, raw and full of feeling. Some pieces look at society and the situations people face…while others focus on love and the thoughts that stay with us.

Samar Kassem was born in 1984 in Kawkab Abu al-Hija, a village in the Galilee. She grew up in a home where writing was a part of daily life. She was inspired by her father, who was a poet and writer. Samar studied sociology at the University of Haifa and worked in social services, where many of the stories and ideas in this book first took shape. Writing has always been her way of expressing what she sees and feels.
