Obesity is often shrouded in mystery, from its causes and risks to its treatment. It’s no secret that obesity is a potentially fatal disease that can decrease an individual’s life expectancy and lead to numerous health complications that may result in death. There is a strong link between excess body weight and these life-threatening conditions. When exploring the types of obesity and treatment methods, most discussions revolve around nutritional plans, exercise programs, and interventions aimed at weight loss. However, these approaches alone are not effective in treating obesity. The truth is, the real treatment for obesity lies in behavior modification and lifestyle changes. These terms have become increasingly common in recent times, but they are not mere magic or empty talk. Behavior modification and lifestyle changes are among the social therapeutic methods that contribute to the treatment of many diseases, as well as physical and psychological disorders. This book highlights the therapeutic role of the medical social worker in helping obese patients through the medical social clinic, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes.
